Matt

It was the beginning of 1938-
A Nazis flag hung
They took everything
Businesses were lost
It'll blow over

It was more important to kill jews than winning the war

Halt, Jew!
Will I walk slowly, they will take me...
Will I run they can shoot me!
Worthless jew!
I can't take anymore

They grabbed many jews in the street
Cutting off our beards
They hanged there for one full week
We were told we are going to the vineyards to work
But they went to Auschwitz, to the gas

Inhumanity against man to man

It's about time you jews left
It's a Nazi trap!
Back to our bunker
I'm sick of hiding
Thank god there are still some kind people left

To die, it's easy
But you have to struggle for life

People aren't born with hatred, they aquire it

Rationale: The main focus of this poem is to convey inhumanity and it's reality during the Holocaust. I chose to write these themes in this poem in order to describe what it was like and what people had to do to successfully survive. In the second stanza," Will I walk slowly, they will take me. Will I run they can shoot me," truly shows us the dificulty of not getting caught by the nazis and getting shipped off to one of the concentration camps. Another misunderstanding of the Holocaust was how irrational it was. None of the jews knew why it had to be them getting tortured and why some, less valuable, survived and others didn't.
